How To Take Care of Your SOUL Sofa

Cleaning & Maintenance Guide

So, you have just received your brand-new SOUL sofa, or you are trying to decide on the best fabric for your lifestyle, and you may be asking yourself:

“How do I look after it?”

Here is a comprehensive guide on cleaning and maintaining your sofa, from cushion care to fabric and leather maintenance.

Get to Know Your Sofa Inside and Out

To get the best from your sofa, it helps to understand what it is made of.

This includes:

  • What is inside the cushions
  • What material is covering your sofa
  • How that material should be cleaned and maintained

Inside the Cushions

Your sofa will be filled with a specific type of Comfort filler, which you will have tried and chosen in our showroom.

These Comfort fillers are made from high-resilience polyurethane cold foam, surrounded by high-quality padding that varies depending on your chosen comfort level.

Our Comfort Fillers

  • DE Foam Firm
Seat and back cushions are made from cold foam covered in fibre padding.
  • EU Foam Soft

  • CM Memory Foam

Top Tips for Cushion Care

  • If your cushions contain ball fibre or feathers, shake them back into their original shape after use.
  • Swap your cushions around about once a week to help your sofa wear evenly and keep its shape.
  • Remember that your sofa will soften slightly, especially during the first month in your home.

Fabric Sofa Care

All fabrics have different care instructions depending on the material they are made from.

Our loose covers are machine washable and come with washing instructions. However, we would still advise using a laundrette to ensure the best clean.

Important Fabric Care Notes

  • Never tumble dry the covers.
  • Leave the cover slightly damp before putting it back on, as this makes it easier to fit.
  • For whole-frame covers, we recommend using a professional laundry service.

General Fabric Cleaning Tips

  1. Treat stains immediately and always follow the instructions for your specific fabric.
  2. Place an absorbent, non-coloured paper or fabric underneath the stain.
  3. Never rub the stain. Dab gently to avoid burls or colour loss.
  4. If you are unsure, ask a specialist or contact us for advice.
  5. Air and vacuum your sofa regularly.
  6. Avoid placing your sofa in direct sunlight or too close to a heat source.
  7. Fabric may move and wrinkle from time to time. Adjust and smooth it out by hand.

Efficiency Fabrics

Fabric names: Evita, Eros, Divine, Celine, Velvety

Our Efficiency Fabrics are eco-friendly, durable, and easy to clean. The fabric is double woven for improved durability and treated to create an extra-soft finish.

The production process is also optimised to be more eco-friendly.

How to Clean Efficiency Fabrics

  • For small stains, gently dab the area with a clean cloth and soapy water.
  • For larger stains, loose covers can be machine washed at 30°C.

Easy Care Fabrics

Fabric names: Evita, Eros, Gianni

Our Easy Care Fabrics are made using high-quality polyolefin and polyester, making them highly resistant to wear and tear.

They are also soft to the touch thanks to high-speed tumbling during the production process.

These fabrics work by slowly absorbing liquids and dirt, giving you time to clean up accidents before they settle deeply into the fabric.

How to Clean Easy Care Fabrics

  • For small spills, dab the stain gently with a clean cloth and water.
  • For larger stains, loose covers can be machine washed at 40°C.

Pet-Friendly Sofa Fabrics

If you want a fabric sofa but are worried about claws, fur, or stains, we have options for you.

We carry pet-friendly fabrics on selected sofas, designed to be:

  • Durable
  • Tightly woven
  • Stain-resistant
  • Easy to maintain

After years of experience, we have also found that velvet is extremely durable when it comes to claws, thanks to its lack of a pronounced weave.

Semi-Aniline Leather and Corrected Leather are also safe choices for homes with pets, as they are easy to wipe clean and do not trap odours or hair.

Scotchgard and Fabric Protection

For sustainability reasons, our manufacturer does not chemically treat our fabrics to repel liquids.

Scotchgard is a chemical treatment that can be added to fabrics to help repel liquids. While our fabrics are not treated this way during manufacturing, there are companies that can provide this service separately.

They will need to know the fabric composition in order to treat it properly.

Leather Sofa Care

Leather is famous for its durability and the way it develops character as it ages. It is also practical, as it is easy to wipe clean and does not trap odours or hair.

However, different types of leather need different levels of care.

General Leather Cleaning Tips

  • Clean spills straight away with a clean cloth.
  • Do not use strong detergents on leather stains. Use a damp cloth instead.
  • Avoid rubbing the leather.
  • If you are unsure how to treat a stain, ask a specialist or contact us.
  • Dust with a wool cloth.
  • Avoid placing leather furniture in direct sunlight or too close to a heat source.
  • Leather will stretch over time. Adjust the covers and smooth them out by hand.
  • Air the room regularly to help prevent the leather from becoming dry.

Types of Leather and How to Maintain Them

Aniline Leather

Leather names: Grizzly, Western, Bergamo, Jesolo, Nappa, Sorrento, Sauvage

Aniline leather is a premium leather treated with transparent, soluble dyes. This preserves the hide’s natural pores, markings, and texture, creating a soft and supple finish that ages beautifully over time.

Because it has minimal surface treatment, Aniline leather is more prone to stains and scratches. It is the leather type that needs the most care.

How to Maintain Aniline Leather

  • Treat with suitable leather care products 3 to 4 times per year.
  • Clean spills immediately.
  • Avoid strong cleaning products.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Semi-Aniline Leather

Leather names: Meno, Vesuvino, Bolzano, Fantasy, Zero, California

Semi-Aniline Leather is dyed through and treated with a protective layer, making it more resistant to stains and scratches.

It is also very comfortable, as it feels less cold in winter and less sticky in summer compared to Aniline leather.

This is one of the best leather options for homes with children and/or pets.

How to Maintain Semi-Aniline Leather

  • Treat with suitable leather care products every 6 to 12 months.
  • Wipe spills quickly with a clean cloth.
  • Avoid harsh detergents and excessive rubbing.

Nubuck Leather

Nubuck is a lightly ground hide with open pores and natural markings.

These marks give each hide its own character, which becomes even more beautiful as it ages.

Our Nubuck is treated to increase resistance to spills and stains. This treatment usually lasts around 2 years.

How to Maintain Nubuck Leather

  • Use a clean toothbrush or soft-bristle brush.
  • Brush gently in circular motions to remove dirt.
  • Avoid using water or strong cleaning products unless advised by a specialist.

Corrected Leather

Leather name: Naturelle

Corrected leather has had natural marks ground away and a protective coating applied. An artificial texture is then embossed into the surface.

This leather requires the least maintenance and is resistant to spills and stains, making it an ideal choice for homes with children and/or pets.

How to Maintain Corrected Leather

  • Wipe spills clean with a damp cloth.
  • Avoid harsh cleaning products.
  • Dust regularly.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Final Thoughts

By following these simple care and maintenance guidelines, you can keep your SOUL sofa looking beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming for years to come.

Whether you choose fabric, velvet, or leather, the right cleaning routine will help your sofa age well and remain a centrepiece in your home.
